USC's Steve Sarkisian: 'I'm going to treatment'

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY

USC head coach Steve Sarkisian told media Tuesday that he'll seek treatment for alcohol abuse following a team event Saturday night where he was reportedly intoxicated and using foul language.

Sarkisian claimed that mixing alcohol and medication caused his behavior. He also said he doesn't feel he has a drinking problem, but plans to seek treatment regardless.

"I'm going to find that out," Sarkisian said. "I'm going to treatment. I don't know if I even need rehab but it's sort of the process."

Questions arose about substances in the Trojans' locker room following the incident on Saturday, but Sarkisian insists that no players ever consumed alcohol in the locker room.

"There was never alcohol in players' locker room," he said, "there was alcohol in coaches' locker room."

Sarkisian added that alcohol would no longer be permitted in the building.

Trojans quarterback Cody Kessler said that Sarkisian earned more respect from the team for his actions following the event.

"He apologized to us as a man," Kessler said. "He earned more respect. It brought us closer together as a team. We support him 100 percent."
