Report: Lakers considering signing Metta World Peace

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly considering bringing back the ever-controversial Metta World Peace for another run with the franchise, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

If a deal gets struck between the two parties, it would be on a one-year contract, although nothing has been agreed upon just yet.

World Peace will turn 36 years old in November, having been away from the NBA since being waived by the New York Knicks in 2013-14. He then took his talents overseas to play ball in both China and Italy, suiting up for the Sichuan Blue Whales and Pallacanestro Cantu.

Wojnarowski notes that the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year (2004) has also been playing against some of the Lakers' players this offseason at the team's practice facility.

World Peace played four seasons with the Lakers from 2009-13, averaging 9.9 points, four rebounds, and 1.4 steals in 298 appearances. He was also a part of the 2010 championship squad.

Nick Young is currently slotted in as the starting small forward for next season, although Kobe Bryant has hinted at moving to the three to allow young upstarts D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson to play in the backcourt. Should World Peace return, he could very well be thrust into a large role as a defense-minded wing, something the Lakers are sorely lacking.
