Despite taking the loss Sunday afternoon at Great American Ball Park, right-hander Raisel Iglesias accomplished something during his team's series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks that no Cincinnati Reds rookie has done in more than four decades.

Making just his 12th career start, Iglesias allowed a pair of runs - one earned - over seven innings in Sunday's series finale, but became the first Reds rookie since 1967 to record 13 strikeouts in a game.

No rookie has enjoyed such a dominant outing for Cincinnati since Gary Nolan fanned 15 over 7 2/3 innings against the San Francisco Giants on June 7, 1967 - a game that, ironically enough, also ended in a Reds loss.

Iglesias, the Cuban defector who landed a seven-year, $27-million deal with the Reds last August, hadn't collected more than eight strikeouts in any of his previous 11 starts.

He lowered his ERA to 3.93 with Sunday's outing, while improving his strikeout rate to 25.2 percent - the second-best mark among rookie starters with at least 50 innings pitched.
