LeBron on potential for 'Space Jam 2': 'We hope so'

Either "Space Jam 2" is actually happening, or LeBron James really likes messing with the cartoon-viewing public.

The Cleveland Cavaliers superstar once again spoke about the possibility of a sequel to the 1996 Warner Bros. flick, hinting to TODAY's Willie Geist that there's fire behind the long-standing smoke.

"We hope so," James said. "We're definitely missing Bugs and Daffy and Tasmanian Devil and every last one of them, so hopefully we can do some great things."

James has forayed into film and television in recent years - his production company has a working relationship with Warner Bros. - and with children of his own, following in Michael Jordan's footsteps with a "Space Jam" sequel would make sense. Rumors first suggested "Space Jam 2" was a possibility in February, and James offered a "wait and see" as recently as July 28.

The movie could be a lot of fun. It could also be disappointing, as these things are hard to predict. James was enjoyable in his first major movie role in this summer's "Trainwreck," but the Looney Tunes aren't exactly at the forefront of popular culture in 2015, and the storyline from the original left little room for a sequel.

At the very least, "Space Jam 2" would probably make a ton of money, which may be all that matters.
