Eric Berry makes triumphant return from cancer: 'I've been dreaming about this'

Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry returned to football Saturday, eight months after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

"I've been dreaming about this," Berry said at halftime of the Chiefs' preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals, as reported by BJ Kissel of the team's website.

Berry underwent chemotherapy after being diagnosed in December when doctors discovered a mass in his chest.

Widely considered to be one of the premier strong safeties in football, Berry returns to a talented, yet under-the-radar secondary that boasts two excellent cornerbacks in Sean Smith and 2015 first-round pick Marcus Peters.

Berry was cleared by doctors to return to football activities on July 28 after being declared cancer-free in June.

Kansas City named Berry a captain for Saturday's contest, alongside Dustin Colquitt, Alex Smith, Jamaal Charles, and Justin Houston.

The Cardinals compiled a video package ahead of the game, welcoming Berry back to football.
