Report: Saints' Spiller expected to miss preseason after arthroscopic knee surgery

New Orleans Saints running back C.J. Spiller has undergone arthroscopic knee surgery and will miss the entire preseason, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Spiller is expected to return for the season opener on Sept. 13, Schefter reports.
The free-agent addition missed practice leading up to the Saints' first preseason game after suffering an injury Aug. 7. Spiller played in just nine games last season due to a broken collarbone.
The Saints are expected to employ a timeshare at running back with Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson in the mix.
With Spiller out, veteran Tim Hightower, who said, "It felt awesome" to return to the field after three years on Thursday, will get an opportunity to prove his worth as an NFL back in the Saints' offense.
