Cubs knock off White Sox for longest winning streak since 2008
The Chicago Cubs have delivered the first blow in the Windy City Showdown.
Powered by a pair of home runs off the bat of outfielder Chris Coghlan, the Cubs knocked off their cross-town counterparts, the Chicago White Sox, 6-5 on Friday to take the first of a three-game set.
"We feel like we're going to win every game," Coghlan told reporters. "(Believing) it is totally different than just saying: Yeah, I hope we go win today.”
The win marked the eighth in a row for the Cubs - their longest winning streak since rattling off nine straight in 2008.

It's been a red-hot month for the North Siders as they're 11-1 in August and have extended their lead over the San Francisco Giants for the second wild-card spot from a 1/2-game to five in the last week.
The Cubs, who haven't made the playoffs since 2008, sit seven games back of their 73-win total from a season ago with 48 games remaining.
