Henrik Stenson flirts with history, trips up with bogey-bogey stretch

Brian Spurlock / USA TODAY Sports

Henrik Stenson needed two birdies over his final two holes to record the first 62 in major championship history.

He scratched down two bogeys instead.

Records notwithstanding, Stenson played himself back into the 97th PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, shaving 10 strokes off his woeful first round with a Friday 66.

At 2-under for the tournament, Stenson's pursuit toward a first major will continue through the weekend. He's safe above the cut line, turning in four shots off the provisional lead.
