The Calgary Flames and forward Micheal Ferland are "getting closer" to reaching a deal after negotiations this week, Sportsnet's Roger Millions reports.

Ferland scored two goals and added three assists in 26 regular-season games with the Flames in his rookie campaign. He became a fan favorite in the playoffs, scoring three goals and notching a pair of assists in nine contests.

The 23-year-old is a restricted free agent who made less than $1 million in 2014-15. He's Calgary's lone remaining free agent.

Ferland was a fifth-round pick of the Flames in 2010.
