One of the Copa America's standout players is heading to the BayArena.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen completed the signing of Charles Aranguiz from Brazilian club SC Internacional on Thursday, as the Chilean midfielder put pen to paper on a five-year contract that extends until 2020.

Aranguiz was instrumental in helping Chile capture its first-ever Copa America title this summer. The 26-year-old could make his Bundesliga debut Saturday, when Leverkusen kicks off its season versus TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

"The Bundesliga is one of the best and most attractive leagues in the world, and Bayer have been one of the top teams in it for many years," Aranguiz said. "Arturo (Vidal) spoke highly of Leverkusen and that's why I desperately wanted to come to this club.

"I also see a big chance of playing in the Champions League with Leverkusen. They have practically always been involved lately and we want to qualify for it again this time. I'm really looking forward to this challenge in a new country."

Aranguiz underwent a medical at Leverkusen on Wednesday, confirming Leicester City's pursuit of the player had failed despite a reported club-record bid of £10.5 million.

Among the first to welcome Aranguiz to Leverkusen was Hakan Calhanoglu, who should form a lethal partnership with the Chilean in front of goal.
