Hawks' Mike Scott facing up to 25 years on drug charges

Brett Davis / USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta Hawks forward Mike Scott faces up to 25 years in prison for the two felony drug charges stemming from his arrest in late July, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Scott was arrested in Banks County, Ga., along with his younger brother, after the vehicle his brother was driving was pulled over and found to contain more than an ounce of marijuana and 10.9 grams of MDMA. Scott claimed the entire stockpile of drugs belonged to him, and was released on a $8,100 bond.

The charge for the MDMA reportedly carries a sentence of up to 15 years, and the marijuana charge an additional 10.

An initial court date could take several months to schedule because the drugs have been sent to an independent lab for processing, the Banks County Assistant District Attorney said.

Scott averaged 7.8 points and 2.9 rebounds for the Hawks last season, his third with the franchise and in the NBA. He is under contract through 2016-17.
