Robert Griffin III: Redskins 'are asking me to be basic' and 'do the ordinary'

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is being given one more chance to prove he can be a productive NFL passer.

The talented, yet sporadic, quarterback is being reigned in by head coach Jay Gruden - a move that Griffin accepts as part of his development.

"They are not asking me to be Superman," Griffin told SI.com's Peter King after practice on Friday. "They are asking me to be basic and take the plays that are there. If that's what Jay wants me to do, that's what I am going to do. It doesn't mean you take everything out of your game."

That doesn't mean Griffin is going to become a dink-and-dunk pocket passer, the Baylor product knows making plays with his legs is still part of what he'll do.

"When those opportunities come up to make plays out of the pocket I will do it and not think twice about it. But if they are asking me to do the ordinary, that's what I am going to have to do."

Entering his fourth season, Griffin appears to be regressing. After a dynamic rookie season, his impact has dropped off due to injuries and an inability to consistently hit targets.

In 2015 the Redskins will need to see some level of maturity from Griffin if he hopes to remain the franchise quarterback.
