Notre Dame's Greg Bryant declared academically ineligible for junior season

Notre Dame running back Greg Bryant has been declared academically ineligible for his junior season and will not report to training camp with the team, head coach Brian Kelly announced.

The news was first reported by Pete Sampson of Irish Illustrated.

"There are certain expectations within our program that must be met on a daily basis. Quite simply, Greg did not meet those expectations," Kelly said in a statement.

Sampsons reports that Bryant's father told him the running back needed a B+ in a summer school course to remain eligible, but instead received a B-.

Bryant had reportedly already received a four-game suspension for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

Tarean Folston - who led the Irish with 889 rushing yards a year ago - was already slotted in as the team's starting tailback this upcoming season.

Bryant was the Irish's second leading rusher in 2014, churning out 289 yards and three scores.
