Report: Ravens' Matt Elam to undergo surgery for torn biceps

Baltimore Ravens safety Matt Elam's season might be over before it starts.

Elam is scheduled to undergo surgery this week to repair a torn biceps, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun. The injury is believed to be a complete tear, Ed Werder of ESPN reports.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Sunday that he wasn't "real optimistic" after speaking with doctors about Elam's biceps, suggesting the injury could be season-ending.

Elam drew criticism from general manager Ozzie Newsome after struggling in 2014, but he showed up to training camp in better shape and confident about the season ahead.

The 2013 first-round pick has started 26 games for the Ravens over his first two NFL seasons, notching 127 tackles, half a sack, one forced fumble, and an interception.
