Miranda, Cannetti notch wins on UFC 190 Fight Pass prelims
Vitor Miranda def. Clint Hester via second-round TKO
Vitor Miranda straight-up styled on Clint Hester.
Hester's plan for Miranda involved constant wrestling, while Miranda's more successful strategy of shucking off Hester's takedowns and making him pay with ground-and-pound worked to a violent tee.
Almost midway through the second stanza, Miranda caught Hester with a vicious knee while Hester was diving in for a double leg. The picture-perfect knee stunned the American, and Miranda quickly reversed position and started unloading on Hester with a torrent of punches and elbows until referee Herb Dean mercifully stepped in to make the save.
Spectacular performance by the Brazilian.
Guido Cannetti def. Hugo Viana via unanimous decision
It was three uneventful rounds of clinching interrupted by (extremely) brief flashes of violence, and when the dust settled, Guido Cannetti walked away with his hand raised.
Cannetti and Hugo Viana's clinch-fest that kicked off the prelims of UFC 190 on Saturday night was mostly action-free, but Cannetti's offensive outbursts -including a decent head kick-punch combo that legitimately hurt Viana - were enough to allow him to outpoint his Brazilian counterpart over the 15-minute affair.
Prelim fights should work like the Gong Show or America's Got Talent. Fans get to vote on whether there's a second and/or third round.
