Report: Giants' Jason Pierre-Paul rehabbing away from team

New York Giants pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul irked team brass when he refused to let representatives see him while in the hospital after his fireworks accident, and the relationship between the two sides doesn't appear to be on the mend.

Pierre-Paul is rehabbing his hand injury, which includes the loss of a finger, away from the team, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN, who also reported that a source told him Pierre-Paul will be on the field "sooner than a lot of people think" this season.

Giants co-owner John Mara expressed his concern over the situation Tuesday, saying he didn't think Pierre-Paul was receiving good advice right now.

Compounding the issue is the 26-year-old's contract situation. The Giants used the franchise tag on Pierre-Paul, but he has yet to sign the tender. After a 12.5-sack season in 2014, he was hoping to work out a long-term deal. That looks to be off the table now, though, at least until the Giants see what kind of shape he's in heading into the season.
