Report: Lions to meet with Gosder Cherilus

Adam Hunger / USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions are set to host veteran offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus for a free-agent visit, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Cherilus, who spent the first five seasons of his career in Detroit, was quick to generate interest on the open market after being released by the Indianapolis Colts earlier this week.

The eighth-year veteran reportedly took a visit with the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday before meeting with his former team.

Detroit selected Cherilus in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft, and he went on to start 71 games for the club before departing for a lucrative free-agent deal with the Colts in 2013.

He would compete for the starting job at right tackle if he does indeed return, helping the Lions make some much-needed improvements on the offensive front heading into the upcoming season.
