Blackhawks hire Jamal Mayers as community liaison

The Chicago Blackhawks added some toughness to their front office Monday.

The team hired former player Jamal Mayers under the title of community liaison. Mayers spent the final two seasons of his playing career in Chicago, retiring after the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in 2013.

"We are proud to welcome Jamal back to the organization in this role," Blackhawks president and CEO John McDonough said in a statement on the team's website Monday. "We envision him being a strong asset to the Blackhawks as we continue to focus on the growth of youth hockey. Jamal's involvement in our local neighborhoods will help to further engrain the Blackhawks brand into our community."

Mayers made 915 regular-season appearances during his playing career, recording 219 points and 1,200 penalty minutes. He had 17 points and 107 penalty minutes in 100 games with Chicago.
