Fixture list drawn up for 2015-16 Serie A season

Reuters

Calendars were circled on Monday as the fixture list for the 2015-16 Serie A season was published at long last.

Juventus, the reigning champion, will kick off its title defense versus Udinese on the first matchday of the season, while newcomers Carpi and Frosinone will make their top-flight debuts at Sampdoria and at home to Torino, respectively. Other notable games from the opening weekend will see Fiorentina host AC Milan while Roma visits Hellas Verona.

Midweek matchdays will take place on September 23, October 28, January 6, February 3, and April 20, and the season will come to a close on May 15.

Notable Fixtures

Matchday 2: Roma vs. Juventus

Roma is scheduled to host Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico only two weeks into the season in a fixture between the top two clubs from the last campaign. Both sides are candidates for the Scudetto, and the early meeting means that one team will find itself short of the maximum six points through the first two matchdays.

Matchday 3: Inter Milan vs. AC Milan

The city of Milan will come to its bi-annual standstill in mid-September, when Inter Milan and AC Milan renew their eternal rivalry at the San Siro in the Derby della Madonnina. Both clubs are intent on erasing the memories of a humiliating 2014-15 campaign, and the derby will allow one side to get an early edge on the other.

Matchday 8: Inter Milan vs. Juventus

Nine years have passed since Serie A was rocked by Calciopoli, but memories of the scandal will once again be triggered in mid-October, when Inter Milan hosts Juventus at the San Siro. The fixture is always among the most entertaining of the Serie A season, largely because of the dominance of the two clubs over the past decade.

Matchday 10: Frosinone vs. Carpi

In the first of two meetings between Serie A's newcomers, Frosinone will host Carpi at the 10,000-capacity Stadio Matus near the end of October. The two clubs are the 65th and 66th teams to ever play in the top flight of Italian football and the fixture presents both sides with an opportunity to grab three points in their bids to avoid relegation.

Matchday 12: Roma vs. Lazio

Bragging rights will be on the line in the Italian capital in early November, when Roma hosts Lazio in the Derby della Capitale. Fueling the ever-lasting hatred between the two clubs is the fact that Roma clinched an automatic berth in the group stage of the Champions League by finishing one point ahead of Lazio last season.
