Devils name Tom Fitzgerald assistant general manager
The New Jersey Devils have hired former Pittsburgh Penguins executive and 17-year NHL veteran Tom Fitzgerald as their new assistant general manager.
Fitzgerald, whose executive career began under Ray Shero, reunites with the former Penguins GM, who continues to rework the Devils' front office in the post-Lou Lamoriello era.
"Tom Fitzgerald has extensive experience as both a player and now in hockey operations, having served in several significant roles over the past eight seasons," Shero said, according to the team's official website.
"He is well-respected throughout the league, and I feel that he is an ideal fit for our team."
Fitzgerald served as an assistant coach to Dan Bylsma when the Penguins won the Stanley Cup in 2009.
His position with the Devils is a lateral move, as he held the same role in Pittsburgh last season after serving as assistant to the general manager for five years.
