Report: Seahawks' Earl Thomas not expecting to be ready for camp, uncertain for Week 1

Earl Thomas's recovery from a torn labrum could extend into the 2015 regular season.

The Seattle Seahawks star safety recently told Ed Werder of ESPN that he's not expecting to be cleared for camp and is unsure about his status for Week 1.

Thomas's comments suggest there's considerable doubt surrounding his chances of getting back on the field by the time the 2015 season gets underway, even though head coach Pete Carroll recently expressed optimism about his defensive leader's return.

However, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is reporting that the goal for Thomas is to be active for the third or fourth preseason game and then be ready for Week 1.

Thomas has proven himself to be the league's top overall safety with four Pro Bowls and three first-team All-Pros to his credit through five seasons.

While his absence would be difficult for Seattle to manage no matter the opponent, a Week 2 matchup with the high-powered passing attack of the Green Bay Packers would be tough to handle shorthanded.

The 26-year-old was given a six-to-eight month recovery timetable after undergoing surgery in February, leaving him with a possible return date of any point between August and early October.
