Report: Bills prepared to promote Kurt Anderson as Aaron Kromer's replacement

With training camp approaching, the Buffalo Bills will have to make a decision soon on the future of offensive line coach Aaron Kromer, who remains on indefinite leave following his arrest for battery.

That decision could come before the end of the week, according to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News. If Kromer is dismissed, the Bills are prepared to promote assistant offensive line coach Kurt Anderson to his position, Carucci reports.

Kromer was arrested July 12 on charges of battery with intent to cause bodily harm following an altercation with a teenage boy over the use of beach chairs. Kromer allegedly punched the boy in the face and threatened to kill his family if he reported him to the police.

Bills head coach Rex Ryan had no history of working with Kromer when he hired him in January, but believed he was the best available coach to fix the offensive line.

That sentiment apparently wasn't shared by offensive coordinator Greg Roman, who pegged Chris Foerster as his top choice, according to Carucci.

Anderson, a holdover from the Bills' previous coaching regime, is entering his fourth season with the team. As for why he wasn't promoted in the first place, Carucci offers this explanation:

The main reason Anderson wasn't immediately promoted to offensive line coach was that Ryan and Roman didn't know all that much about him. Before former Bills coach Doug Marrone hired him in 2013, Anderson spent five seasons at Eastern Michigan University, serving as run-game coordinator from 2010 to 2012.
