Philadelphia Phillies' front office believed that prospect Aaron Nola had what it took to retire big-league hitters.

Retiring opposing pitchers, though, has proven to be another story.

Through the first three innings of his first big-league start, Nola - the Phillies' top prospect - struck out four Tampa Bay Rays batters while giving up three hits.

But no hit was bigger than the one he surrendered to opposing starter Nate Karns, who took him yard to left field.

With the homer, Karns became the first American League pitcher to go deep since Baltimore's Zach Britton did it in 2011. He also became the second pitcher in Rays history to hit a home run.
