Report: Aaron Gordon fractures jaw goofing around with brother

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

You're never too old to roughhouse with your siblings.

Orlando Magic sophomore Aaron Gordon underwent surgery to repair a fractured jaw Tuesday, team spokesman Joel Glass told Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel.

The 19-year-old Gordon injured his jaw "horsing around" with older brother Drew Gordon, who had a cup of coffee with the Philadelphia 76ers last season. The 25-year-old elder sibling apparently escaped the incident unharmed, though he was almost surely grounded.

Aaron is expected to recover in time for the regular season, but this puts a temporary stop to his offseason development. He averaged 21.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in three Orlando Summer League games earlier this month, showing enormous strides from his rookie campaign.

The No. 4 overall pick in 2014, Aaron was held to 47 games as a rookie due to a foot fracture and an ankle sprain. He averaged 5.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in 17 minutes, shooting 44.7 percent from the floor and 27.1 percent from long range.

That 3-point percentage needs to climb for Aaron to fulfill his promise as a stretch-four, especially for the shooting-starved Magic. But even without a strong jumper, he's an intriguing prospect. Blessed with great length and ridiculous athleticism, he can handle the ball from the wing, make an impact in the transition game, and has the potential to be an elite, multi-position defender.
