Wayne Rooney will consider following in the footsteps of David Beckham and other English footballers when he reaches the twilight of his career.

The Manchester United captain admitted a move to MLS is a possibility when his time at Old Trafford ends.

"I'm obviously concentrating on Manchester United," Rooney told Matt Pentz from the Seattle Times. "When that time comes, (MLS will) be something I’d think about.

"(I'll) sit down with my wife and children and decide if it would be right for me."

A move across the pond, however, likely won't occur until Rooney's contract expires in 2019.

Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard were the latest players to defect from the Premier League after joining New York City FC and LA Galaxy, respectively.

Beckham was one of the first high-profile players to depart for the North American league when he joined the Galaxy in 2007.
