Manchester United unveiled one of the top signings of the summer Monday, introducing Bastian Schweinsteiger and announcing that the former Bayern Munich midfielder has agreed to a three-year deal.

Neither side disclosed the price of the transfer agreement, but various British media outlets suggested United paid £14.5 million.

It was the German international's first time being paraded in front of a British audience, as he donned the red United kit before linking up with his new teammates to take part in the team's preseason tour.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bayern Munich, it has been an incredible journey and I didn’t take the decision to leave lightly," Schweinsteiger said on the team's website.

"Manchester United is the only club that I would have left Munich for. I feel ready for this new and exciting challenge in what I regard as the most competitive league in the world and I am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal again.

"I will never forget my time at Bayern Munich and I would like to thank everyone at the club and the fans for the great memories."

As he mentioned, Schweinsteiger will be under the guidance of a familiar face. Manager Louis van Gaal spoke about his relationship with the 30-year-old, and how a player with his experience and years of success will benefit Manchester United.

"Bastian is, of course, no stranger to me. I worked with him during my time at Bayern Munich and I am truly delighted he is joining Manchester United," Van Gaal said. "His record speaks for itself; he has won every honour at club level and was a major part of the successful Germany World Cup-winning team last summer.

"Bastian is the ultimate professional and there is no doubting his talent and his ability to control games. He brings a wealth of experience and is an excellent addition to our squad."

Schweinsteiger's illustrious career in Germany ends with him scoring 70 goals in 500 matches during his 10-plus years with Bayern Munich.

His move coincided with United's capture of Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton, as the club announced that the French midfielder has agreed to a four-year contract.
