The Sacramento Kings are hoping to land free agent Luc Mbah a Moute, reported Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

The two sides are said to be "progressing on a deal," said Wojnarowski.

Mbah a Moute is a strong defender who can cover multiple positions. The 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward spent last season playing with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he averaged 9.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 28.6 minutes per game.

The trouble with Mbah a Moute is he can't shoot, which the Kings desperately lack. He shot below 40 percent from every area of the floor outside of the restricted area. The Kings have some solid players around centerpiece DeMarcus Cousins, but they have struggled to find shooters to surround him.

As such, it's tough to see how Mbah a Moute fits alongside Cousins or Rajon Rondo, without significant floor-spacing issues.

Then again, signing Mbah a Moute would be a minor depth move and grabbing a defense-first player is sure to help last season's 27th ranked defense.

Mbah a Moute previously spent one short stint in Sacramento, playing nine games in 2013 before being dealt for swingman Derrick Williams.
