Duke lands commitment from 5-star recruit Jayson Tatum; No. 2 prospect in 2016
Jayson Tatum, a five-star member of the 2016 recruiting class, announced his commitment to Duke at the Peach Jam on Sunday in an ESPNU broadcast.
Tatum, a 6-foot-8 wing from St. Louis, is ranked as the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2016 recruiting class by ESPN.
The 17-year-old had also been considering offers from Kentucky, North Carolina, and Saint Louis. While the Billikens may not possess the stature of the other programs on his short list, the lure of staying close to home was strong for the St. Louis native.
There has been speculation Tatum and Harry Giles - the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2016 class, as ranked by ESPN - have been mulling the idea of committing to the same program in an effort to emulate the success enjoyed by Jahlil Okafor and Tyus Jones at Duke this past season.
