Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to become the first German to play for Manchester United's first team.

United announced Saturday an agreement was reached with Bayern Munich to sign the 30-year-old midfielder, subject to a medical and personal terms.

Bayern's chief executive, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, also confirmed an agreement had been reached.

"Bastian wants to do something new at the end of his career. He asked that we meet his wishes," Rummenigge said. "My colleagues at Manchester United have been in touch. We've reached an agreement over a transfer."

German publication Bild reported Friday that Schweinsteiger, who has one year remaining on his contract and who has spent all 13 years of his professional career at Bayern, had agreed to a three-year deal with United valued at €20 million and that will see the 2014 World Cup winner make £140,000 per week.

Of course, Schweinsteiger's move to Old Trafford means he'll be reunited with manager Louis van Gaal, who was on the touchline at Bayern between 2009 and 2011, and with whom he formed a strong relationship. Furthermore, he'll feature in a midfield that already includes the likes of Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, and Daley Blind.
