Can San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich take another relative unknown and turn him into something special in his rotation?

He'll soon have the chance to try with guard Jonathon Simmons, who has agreed to a two-year deal with the team for the veteran's minimum, reports Shams Charania of Real GM.

The first year of the contract is fully guaranteed, with the second year operating as a team option.

Simmons suited up for the Austin Spurs, San Antonio's D-League affiliate, last season, averaging 15.2 points and 4.3 rebounds in 50 appearances.

The 25-year-old wasn't selected in the 2012 NBA draft, coming out of the University of Houston. He recently participated in three Summer League games for the Brooklyn Nets, averaging 12 points and 4.7 rebounds.
