Bengals' A.J. Green: 'I can wait until the end of the year to get a contract'

While many NFL stars are currently angling for contract extensions, Cincinnati Bengals receiver A.J. Green isn't stressing about his situation.

Green is heading into the final year of his rookie deal, but told ESPN's Coley Harvey on Thursday that he isn't in a rush to get a new contract.

"I don't get into all the 'I need a contract' stuff," Green said. "I'm not here for money. I'm not broke. So I'm fine. I can wait until the end of the year to get a contract, but I know that time is coming."

While Green's comments serve as a breath of fresh air to fans constantly having to listen to athletes demanding more money, his stance is a bit of a risk. A major injury this season could hurt his value, but Green is confident his body of work will get him paid.

"You know I watch ESPN all the time, and that's all they talk about," Green added. "But like I say, I'm just here to play football. My body of work will speak for itself."

Green is in a similar boat to three other elite receivers right now. Demaryius Thomas, Dez Bryant, and Julio Jones should also be receiving new deals shortly, but Green isn't paying much attention.

"It doesn't say anything about me," Green said. "They're three different teams. Three different people. You don't know what their situation is. All I can do is control what I can do, and that's play football. Everything after that takes care of itself."

After establishing himself as one of the top wideouts in the league during his first four seasons with more than 1,000 yards receiving in each campaign, the Bengals are certainly going to pay Green. If that comes later rather than sooner, though, Green doesn't seem like he'll be fazed
