The New York Red Bulls will be without stalwart defender Chris Duvall for three-to-four months, after head coach Jesse Marsch confirmed that the 23-year-old suffered a broken tibia in Wednesday night's U.S. Open Cup match against the New York Cosmos.

Duvall, who underwent surgery Thursday, sustained the injury during the Red Bulls' 4-1 win, when he was involved in a collision with Hunter Gorskie in the second half of the contest.

"The main thing is right now, your heart is with Chris because it was a hard injury." Marsch was quoted as saying by MLSsoccer.com. "It's a devastating blow for him, and it's his first real big injury of his career. But I think it's been made clear to him that this is not anything that's going to endanger his future, and it's just a matter of now it's going to take some time to heal, but that he'll come back and be stronger than ever."

Duvall had played in 15 of New York's 16 MLS matches this season.
