Troy Brouwer: Sent to St. Louis in Four-Player Deal

Brouwer was traded to the Blues on Wednesday along with goalie Pheonix Copley and a 2016 third-round draft pick in exchange for forward T.J. Oshie, NHL.com reports.

Analysis:

Brouwer was a model of consistency during his time in the NHL scoring between 30 and 45 points in six of his seven full seasons. However, despite often receiving the opportunity to skate next to a world-class talent in Alex Ovechkin, Brouwer never provided the breakout season the Capitals were counting on. Nonetheless, he's still a more-than-serviceable second- or third-line talent, though he'll face more obstacles to ice time in St. Louis. The Blues are eager to make room on the roster for youngsters Dmitrij Jaskin and Ty Rattie, either or whom could cut into Brouwer's minutes as the season progresses. Brouwer will enter the final year of his contract and carries a cap hit of $3.67 million.
