Russell Wilson's agent on negotiations with Seahawks: 'It's about winning'

It's everyone's favorite debate in football: How important are wins when it comes to valuing a quarterback's worth?

Most pundits would say not very, but don't tell that to Russell Wilson's agent. Mark Rodgers is negotiating Wilson's deal with the Seattle Seahawks and he told Jon Santucci of TCPalm it's simple, his client is a winner.

"It's so different in football," Rodgers said. "In baseball, you can dive into analytics. In baseball, there are so many numbers that really define the player to the minutest detail. In football, it's a little simpler. I don't have to argue statistics with the Seattle Seahawks on the value of Russell Wilson. In football, the most important stat to me has always been 'Does he win?' It's hard to argue that Russell Wilson doesn't win."

As long as the NFL is keeping score, there is no question wins are going to be the only real stat that matters. That said, who is most responsible for winning is hard to define.

Sure, Wilson has guided the team to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, but the Seahawks have also had a stellar rushing game with Marshawn Lynch and one of the greatest defenses of all time at their disposal. They surely had something to do with it.

"With Russell, he's unique, so let the debate begin," Rodgers said. "He's unconventional in size (5-foot-11, 206 pounds). People argue that he's a game manager or say it's the defense or (running back) Marshawn Lynch — or all of the above. I listen and take all that into account. At the end of the day, it's about winning and what he's asked to do and he does it very, very well."

Rodgers may be wise to stress Wilson's athletic ability above anything else. There aren't many signal callers with his knack for creating plays and extending drives with his legs.

It's going to be an uphill climb to get Wilson the dollar figure he is seeking if the negotiations are based solely on wins.
