Mackanin to remain Phillies interim manager

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Pete Mackanin will remain interim manager of the Philadelphia Phillies for the remainder of the season, the team announced Tuesday.

Mackanin, the third base coach, took over after Ryne Sandberg resigned on Friday after 278 games as Philadelphia's manager. He was previously an interim manager for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds.

The MLB-worst Phillies announced on Monday that longtime MLB executive Andy MacPhail will succeed Pat Gillick as team president at the end of the season and the leadership changes could continue after that.
