Report: Mo Williams' interest in the Cavs being reciprocated

The clearest path to becoming a teammate of LeBron James is to be a former teammate of LeBron James, because time is a flat circle.

Mo Williams, a former James running mate from his previous Cleveland Cavaliers stint, has been rumored for weeks to want a reunion with James in Ohio. As the Cavs begin to sort out what could be a tumultuous offseason, complete with James opting out and playing a wait-and-see game before re-signing, Williams' name is once again coming up.

The Cavs are "very interested" in bringing Williams back, according to a report from Chris Haynes of Northeast Ohio Media Group.

It's difficult to evaluate potential Cavs signings with so much up in the air with their restricted free agents, unrestricted free agents, and sizable nonguaranteed trade chip. If everyone returns, Williams makes sense as a backup capable of manning both guard spots and providing spacing, assuming he's willing to sign at a reasonable price.

The Cavaliers are likely to have just the $3.38-million taxpayer mid-level exception at their disposal, which can be split between multiple players, or Williams can opt to sign for the $1.5-million veteran minimum. Williams earned $3.75 million in 2014-15, a season that saw him average 14.2 points and 6.2 assists while canning 34.2 percent of his outside looks.

If Williams ends up signing in Cleveland, it will probably be as one of the Cavs' later moves. There's far too much to sort out, and flexibility at too great a premium, to lock Williams in early in July.
