Suspended Florida State passer De'Andre Johnson turns himself in to police

Suspended Florida State freshman quarterback De'Andre Johnson turned himself in to police Tuesday and has been released on a $500 bond.

An arrest warrant had been issued for Johnson, who's accused of punching a woman at a bar last week. Assistant state attorney Georgia Cappleman confirmed the charge via email on Tuesday to The Associated Press.

Johnson faces charges of misdemeanor battery. State attorney Willie Meggs, a figure well known to Seminoles fans after the Jameis Winston rape investigation, said he decided to charge Johnson after reviewing surveillance video of the incident.

Witnesses claim Johnson got into an argument with a woman after she jumped in front of him in line at the bar. She allegedly raised her arms and Johnson allegedly grabbed them and punched her in the face.

According to Ira Schoffel of Rivals, the Tallahassee Police Department's report indicates that video of the incident supports witnesses' claims that Johnson punched the woman.

Johnson was suspended indefinitely for an undisclosed violation of team rules (believed to be related to this incident) last week.

Johnson was not considered a front-runner to succeed Winston as the Seminoles' starting quarterback. Junior Sean Maguire and Notre Dame transfer Everett Golson are expected to compete for the role.
