Seahawks' Wilson on extension: 'If it's $25 million or $1.5 million, I’ll be ready to go'

If you're waiting for Russell Wilson to vent his frustration over his stalled contract talks with the Seattle Seahawks, don't hold your breath.

Wilson continued to remain positive when asked about his contract Monday during an interview on ESPN. The 26-year-old said his relationship with the team is great and he is focused on playing the game.

"I think ultimately it comes down to the play," Wilson said. "Just let my play speak for itself, and let the rest take care of itself. Continue to love the game for what it is, continue to fight, continue to play."

However, Wilson may have let it slip the annual amount he is looking for in a new deal.

"No matter how much I’m getting paid, no matter if it’s $25 million or $1.5 million, I’ll be ready to go," Wilson said.

If Wilson is indeed seeking $25 million per year, that would make him the highest-paid player in the game and trump Aaron Rodgers' deal by $3 million per season.

Even though he's guided the team to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, the Seahawks are likely not in a position to pay that right now. They still have to lock linebacker Bobby Wagner up to an extension and it would be foolhardy to give Wilson that type money now when they could have him for $1.5 million in 2015.

The two sides will surely agree to a deal eventually, but if those are the terms Wilson is indeed looking for, the process may drag on for quite some time.
