Report: Cubs, Dodgers showing interest in Mets starter Jon Niese

Jon Niese is emerging as a hot commodity among major-league clubs.

The Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers have discussed the possibility of acquiring the New York Mets starter, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, though details are still vague.

Niese isn't among the top starters in the Mets' rotation, though that's not saying much considering he's surrounded by Matt Harvey, Bartolo Colon, Noah Syndergaard, and Jacob deGrom.

In 14 starts this season, he's 3-7 with a 4.12 ERA and 58 strikeouts. But if Niese has done anything, he's proven to be a versatile lefty who can log some innings.

Since his first full season in 2010, Niese has flirted with 200 innings a few times, striking out close to 150 batters per season (excepting the 2013 campaign, when he only pitched 143 innings).

It'll be interesting to see how this develops, though none of the clubs in question have spoken much about it.
