DCU, TFC play to scoreless draw

Toronto, ON - D.C. United remained on top of the Eastern Conference standings on Saturday after battling Toronto to a scoreless draw at BMO Field.

United came into the fixture 10 points clear of second-place New England and looking for some level of revenge on Toronto FC after falling to the Reds, 2-1, back on June 6.

Things were physical and tense for the duration of the 90 minutes in a driving rain, but chances were few and far between for both sides.

United's best chance came in the 32nd minute when Nick DeLeon got on the end of a corner kick in the box, but his header flew wide of the right post.

Toronto's best chance came in the 67th minute when Michael Bradley played a ball over the top for an on-rushing Sebastian Giovinco. Giovinco took a touch and let one go that looked ticketed for the bottom left corner, but United goalkeeper Bill Hamid got down quickly to make the save, preserving his sixth clean sheet of the season.

Both teams pushed numbers forward looking for a late winner, but it could not be found through three minutes of added time as the East rivals were forced to settle for a point apiece.
