Report: West Ham agree to €15-million fee for Marseille's Dimitri Payet
Dimitri Payet is reportedly set to cross the English Channel.
According to the Guardian, West Ham United have agreed to a fee of €15 million (£10.7 million) for the 28-year-old attacking midfielder, who has been offered a four-year contract that contains a performance-related element and is valued at £60,000 per week, plus £10,000 for each appearance he makes. He'll reportedly fly to London on Friday to undergo a medical.
It was reported on Tuesday that Olympique Marseille had countered an improved bid from West Ham by offering Payet a two-year contract extension. Manager Marcelo Bielsa had apparently asked Marseille president Vincent Labrune to offer new terms, as Payet was set for reduced wages after Marseille failed to qualify for the Champions League.
In the end, though, the attractiveness of the Premier League was reportedly irresistible.
Through 36 Ligue 1 appearances last season, Payet notched seven goals and a league-leading 17 assists. He also led Ligue 1 in key passes per game (3.7), slicing open backlines on a weekly basis. None of that is new for a player who continues to improve year after year.
