Love (shoulder) opted out of the final year of his contract Wednesday, ESPN reports.
Analysis:
Love has maintained throughout his tumultuous tenure with the Cavaliers that he intends to re-sign with the team this offseason, but opting out will at least provide him with the opportunity to explore other options. Love was due to make $16.7 million, but he'll now be eligible to start at $18.9 million per year under a new contract. The Cavaliers had steadfastly stated that they will re-sign Love, but the forward is expected to receive max offers from a handful of appealing suitors.
