John Fox to Bears: 'I don't want to read about you unless you win the lottery'

The Chicago Bears wrapped up their mandatory minicamp Thursday and won't reconvene until July 29, when training camp gets underway.

It's during this idle time that some NFL players make choices that could be detrimental to their careers, and Bears head coach John Fox wants to ensure his team stays out of the news - unless, of course, it's for something positive.

"I've been saying for a long time and I said it again: 'I don't want to read about you unless you win the lottery,'" Fox told reporters Friday, via the team's official website. "Just make good decisions and that's no different off the field than it is on the field. You're trying to play smart, tough and better-conditioned football, and same thing off the field.

"You hope you don't see your head of security or your PR guy on your phone over the break. But I think these guys have conducted themselves well and will continue to moving forward."

The winning attitude Fox brought with him to Chicago has likely contributed to that. Before being hired by the Bears in January, Fox guided the Denver Broncos to four consecutive AFC West titles.

"He's been a great coach," wide receiver Eddie Royal said of Fox. "He's the perfect guy for our team, exactly what we need. He's firm when he needs to be but also laid back at the same time. He's a proven winner."
