Wednesday's mass shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., hit especially close to home for Kansas City Chiefs safety Sanders Commings.

Rev. Clementa C. Pinckney, a pastor and state senator who was among nine people murdered during a prayer meeting, was Commings's cousin.

Commings was in attendance for the final day of the Chiefs' minicamp Thursday. He didn't speak to reporters afterward, but head coach Andy Reid did.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sanders Commings and his family," Reid said following practice, via the Kansas City Star. "He's doing OK, as expected. That's a pretty big shock. That's all I can probably say to you."

Reid agreed that "it took a lot" for Commings to practice with the team following such a tragedy.

"It does, it does," Reid said. "But he'll be able to head back and take care of business."

21-year-old Dylann Roof has been charged with nine counts of murder and one weapon possession charge in connection with the shooting.
