Copa America: Brazil captain Neymar provisionally banned 1 match for red card vs. Colombia

Reuters

Brazil will be without captain and undisputed star Neymar in their group stage finale against Venezuela, and potentially longer.

The 23-year-old was shown a red card for his central role in the altercation that followed the final whistle of the Selecao's 1-0 loss to Colombia on Wednesday, and Thursday the Conmebol Disciplinary Tribunal announced that Neymar has been provisionally suspended for one match.

The Tribunal will meet Friday to determine the final punishment for the forward, which could see the ban lengthen given that Neymar was already set to miss one match - before the red card - as a result of yellow card accumulation. He was shown a caution in each of the team's first two games.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has 24 hours to mount a defense against an enhanced suspension.
