Arturo Vidal's adventure at the Copa America with Chile will continue despite being charged with driving under the influence, as the team's manager confirmed his inclusion in Friday's match against Bolivia.

The Juventus midfielder was formally charged with the offence Wednesday after meeting with a judge at a courthouse in Santiago, Chile, a day after crashing his Ferrari on the outskirts of the capital city while driving back from a casino with his wife.

The judge confiscated the 28-year-old's license, and requested that he report to the Chilean embassy in Rome, according to ESPN FC.

Vidal was held overnight by local police. He apologized for the accident during a tearful press conference Wednesday.

"I had two drinks and then the accident, which you all know about. I endangered the life of my wife and that of many people. I am very sorry," he said. "I am very ashamed. I want to thank all those who supported me during this time. I want to ask for forgiveness from my colleagues, the players, the coaches and the whole country. I will do my best so that we can be champions."

Chile manager Jorge Sampaoli downplayed the seriousness of the situation, noting that the Juventus star will remain with the team.

"We tried to account for the fact that he is a very valuable player for us," Sampaoli said. "He made a mistake that for us was not grounds for exclusion and we wanted to convince him that he is someone that the national team needs now and in the future.

"We can't punish him because we had given the day off to the players. And so I don't believe that it deserves to have such a big magnitude as it has played out to be. We as the technical staff are preparing for Bolivia."

Vidal, the leading scorer at the 2015 Copa America with three goals in as many matches - including two in the 3-3 draw against Mexico - is expected to suit up for Chile's final group match against Bolivia on Friday.
