Wayne Rooney is inching closer to the top of the mountain.
The England captain scored his 48th international goal during Sunday's 3-2 victory over Slovenia in Euro 2016 qualifying.
His tally - the match-winner - put the Manchester United star into a tie with Gary Lineker for second place on the Three Lions' all-time scoring chart.
Lineker, never far away from his trusty Twitter account, congratulated Rooney on his accomplishment:
Rooney now needs just one goal to tie Sir Bobby Charlton for the country's all-time scoring lead. Barring some unforeseen circumstances, the 29-year-old should have absolutely no problem not only equaling the record, but surpassing it.
