Rodriguez impresses against Rosa, improves to 2-0 in the UFC
Charles Rosa thought he was too much, too fast for 22-year-old Yair Rodriguez. Turns out, he wasn't.
Rodriguez threw some massive, flashy kicks to open the first round. While Rosa was trying to avoid being lamped, Rodriguez caught him in a tight triangle choke. Rosa survived, however, and got a takedown of his own, landing a steady stream of ground-and-pound while avoiding Rodriguez's sharp upkicks.
The middle stanza was all Rodriguez, as he peppered Rosa with slick, flashy combinations and vicious leg kicks. Rodriguez even opened up Rosa's forehead with a beautiful spinning back elbow.
Rosa bounced back in the final frame, using his wrestling to neutralize Rodriguez's impressive weapons on the feet and landing some heavy punches and elbows while deeply entrenched in El Pantera's guard. However, it was a classic case of too little, too late for Rosa, and Rodriguez walked away with a split-decision victory.
Exhausted after the spirited 15-minute affair, Rodriguez threw up on himself.
