Scalabrine, Nate Robinson among former NBA players participating in tourney with $1M prize

Mike DiNovo-US PRESSWIRE

The true ballers of the NBA can't stay away from the game for too long.

That's right - Brian Scalabrine is a certified baller.

The Basketball Tournament is a single-elimination, five-on-five contest featuring over 40 former NBA players, including "The White Mamba," Nate Robinson, Royce White, Hakim Warrick and Michael Sweetney.

The winning team will walk home with a whopping $1 million, which is twice as much as the $500,000 prize from the year before.

The festivities commence on July 10-12, with the semifinals and championship game taking place at Fordham University in New York on August 1-2, which you can catch live on ESPN.

The field has grown immensely from last year's crop, jumping from 32 to 97 teams that will be split into four regions: Philadelphia (Northeast), Atlanta (South), Chicago (Midwest), and Los Angeles (West).

The defending champions, the Notre Dame Fighting Alumni, will be making a return with former Indiana Pacers forward Ben Hansbrough leading the way.

Even some current NBA players are getting in on the fun, although they'll be working as coaches and general managers instead of active participants.

San Antonio Spurs forward Matt Bonner will be working with Team Grantland, while Nick "Swaggy P" Young of the Los Angeles Lakers will be coaching the three-peat Drew League champions, LAUNFD.
