Ortega carves up Tavares' face in victory at UFC Fight Night 68
Thiago Tavares wanted to grind, while Brian Ortega ... Brian Ortega wanted to style.
Ortega threw up what felt like 1,878 submission attempts from his back over two-plus rounds, while Tavares, a consummate grinder, landed a steady stream of ground-and-pound while trying to maintain heavy top control.
Looking like Frankenstein's monster with a pair of massive gashes on his forehead, Tavares kept coming forward in the third stanza, while Ortega seemed to gain momentum on the feet with slick combinations. Eventually, Ortega floored the Brazilian with a right hand to the jaw and followed it up with an onslaught of fists until referee Dan Miragliotta stepped in at 4:10 of the final frame.
